SF Bay Area: BART Transbay Tube Closure Planned

BART is tentatively planning to shut down service on the Transbay Tube linking the East Bay and San Francisco toward the end of summer to permit track and switch work.

The shutdown due to work between the West Oakland station and the tube under the bay is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 1"'2, with a second shutdown over the Labor Day weekend, Sept. 5"'7.

The closure dates have not been finally set, BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said Monday.

The work plan was revealed in a heads-up memo to Bay Area transportation planners sent by BART assistant general manager Kerry Hamill.

The rail-transit agency plans to run buses for passengers traveling between Oakland and San Francisco during both weekends, she said. ..................(more)

thereby leaving me cut off from civilization.

I cannot imagine how they're going to handle this. Especially not with a Billy Joel concert at AT&T Park over Labor Bay weekend.
