Coyote Attacks Trail Camera

I check the trail cameras every 3 to 4 weeks. When I checked the Finley Tank camera at Audubon's Appleton-Whittell Research Ranch last week I saw that it had been displaced from its normal position. The video revealed why:

I know he's a wild animal, but he is adorable in a dog-like way... Thanks so much for sharing this with us!

is an oasis located in an otherwise dry southern Arizona grassland. It is a perennial seep that is an important waterhole for wildlife between the winter rains and the late summer monsoons. Its water supports coyotes, javelina, white-tailed deer, black bear, bobcat, skunks, pack-rats and various species of plants, hummingbirds and passerine birds.

is as good as mine! In all the years I've used trail cameras to document wildlife, I've mostly seen that they sometimes 'notice' the camera - wildlife may look at it or smell it, but in only one other occasion did they bite at it like this coyote. The other time was a javelina. My best guess is that they see and un-natural object that smells quite different and have to test it...

The coyote was going to use it as a component in some elaborate Rube Goldberg device for catching roadrunners.

My German Shepherd mix is awesome to watch when she uses her nose. Sometimes she puts her nose to the ground and sniffs in and out quickly (while I'm walking her on leash). It's really amazing to watch.
I love dogs so much.
