Rubio On Climate Agreement: "Unilateral Disarmament"; "Outrageous" And So On And So On

Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio mocked the Paris climate deal this week, calling the agreement an “unfunny joke.” In an interview with Fox News and at an event in Las Vegas on Monday, Rubio said the deal — agreed upon last week by nearly 200 countries — was “ridiculous.”

“This kind of unilateral disarmament in our economy is reckless, and it is hurting the American Dream,” Rubio told the audience. Rubio expanded on his views of the Paris deal in a conversation with Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

EDIT

“Here’s the most outrageous part,” Rubio said on Fox News. “This is a deal that’s going to require the American taxpayer to send billions of dollars to developing countries. Well, China considers itself a developing country. Does that mean the American taxpayer is going to send billions to China to help them comply with the arrangement here?”

But Gwynne Taraska, senior policy adviser at the Center for American Progress, told ThinkProgress in an email that there is “absolutely no mandate in the Paris agreement for the U.S. to send climate finance to China.”
