Al Gore gets green with new Staples Center power source

Former Vice President Al Gore and Staples Center officials celebrated the installation of fuel cells said to provide approximately 25 percent of the energy required to power the arena.
The Bloom Energy fuel cell technology, including servers, will also reduce Staples Centers carbon emissions by 2.2 million pounds of carbon annually, a 39 percent reduction compared to electricity purchased from the Department of Water and Power, according to Staples Center President Lee Zeidman.

Staples Centers commitment to energy efficiency also includes a 346- kilowatt rooftop solar array and nearly 500 waterless urinals Zeidman said have saved more than 2.3 million gallons of water annually...snip
