The Sheep Look Up

The Sheep Look Up is a science fiction novel by British author John Brunner, first published in 1972. The novel's setting is decidedly dystopian; the book deals with the deterioration of the environment in the United States. It was nominated for the Nebula Award for Best Novel in 1972.

Plot summary[edit]
With the rise of a corporation-sponsored government, pollution in big cities has reached extreme levels and most (if not all) people's health has been affected in some way.

We have learned from the generations before and more so from our "global leaders" to disrespect the beautiful home we live on. We can also learn it's opposite, to take care of our special wonderful planet.

Thanks for posting this, Iching.

Lots of stunning visuals of our consumerist society & the impact on our environment. http://www.chrisjordan.com/gallery/intolerable/#cellphones2

Here's the midway gallery, where the tragic bird photos are. http://www.chrisjordan.com/gallery/midway/#CF000313%2018x24

I read somewhere if you see a photo of a beautiful beach, it's likely it was 'groomed' prior to the photo being taken.

The problem is that our corporate leaders don't and too many follow them.

Human Overpopulation.

Been saying it since I was a kid. (Well, I didn't have the vocabulary, but I had the awareness. Even then, over 50 years ago.)

I can't look at the pics....it won't help me. I already do everything I can...particularly not breed.

This world could easily support all of us here today if we worked together and used technology to our benefit. But unfortunately that is not a profitable way to run the world, so it won't happen.

JUNE: A Place To Stand

What hurt him most of all, made him feel like a sick child aware of terrible wrongness and yet incapable of explaining it to anyone who might help, was that in spite of the evidence around them, in spite of what their eyes and ears reported—and sometimes their flesh, from bruises, stab wounds, racking coughs, weeping sores—these people believed their way of life was the best in the world, and were prepared to export it at the point of a gun.

JULY: Scratched

When the politicians claim that the public isn’t interested any longer in environmental conservation, they’re half right. People are actually afraid to be interested, because they suspect—I think rightly—that we’ll find if we dig deep enough that we’ve gone so far beyond the limits of what the planet will tolerate that only a major catastrophe which cuts back both our population and our ability to interfere with the natural biocycle would offer a chance of survival.

I was reminded of his works after seeing the photos which is why
I included him in the post. I'm glad you included his other works which were tied to the sheep look up.
