Heavy winter storm descends on parts of Mideast

JERUSALEM A heavy winter storm descended on parts of the Middle East on Friday, with snow forcing the closure of all roads leading in and out of Jerusalem and sprinkling Israel's desert with a rare layer of white.

Snow also fell in parts of the West Bank, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria as a cold front swept through the region.

The Holy Land's ancient sites were picture-postcard pretty. Snow capped the golden Dome of the Rock, a Muslim site in Jerusalem, dusted the Western Wall, a Jewish holy site, and blanketed the Nativity Church in the West Bank town of Bethlehem, where Christian tradition holds that Jesus was born.

~snip~

Jerusalem municipality spokeswoman Brachie Sprung said 25 centimeters (10 inches) of snow were dumped on the city, with 10 centimeters (4 inches) more forecasted for later in the day.

4 Inches? that's about the size of Scott Wanker, isn't it? Also explains his need to overcompensate.

Is that close to the Lake? Cuz, I am west and south of Lake Michigan, and the storm clearly passes over us towards you.

It hit 12 degrees today, which is 20 degrees warmer than yesterday, but still 20 degrees below freezing. Amazing what Mommy Nature can do to us. Less inspiring is what "us" can do to Mommy Nature.

-18F AT 8 AM in Ann Arbor

+28F in Nome, where it was only 4 AM.
+37F and raining in Helsinki, Finland, where it was 3 PM.
+28 F and snowing in Reykjavik, Iceland, where it was 1 pm.

At 5 PM now it's up to 9F, and it will rise to near freezing, in order for the snow to fall.

Let's not even discuss wind chill.

How people can go outside without even a HAT (I was wearing 3 head coverings: a ski cap, a fleece hoodie hood, and a wind-stopping nylon hood) or in skimpy leggings when they have legs like toothpicks, is beyond my comprehension.
