08 December 2014

[font size=3]UNSW's solar researchers have converted over 40% of the sunlight hitting a solar system into electricity, the highest efficiency ever reported.

The world-beating efficiency was achieved in outdoor tests in Sydney, before being independently confirmed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) at their outdoor test facility in the United States.

“This is the highest efficiency ever reported for sunlight conversion into electricity,” UNSW Scientia Professor and Director of the Australian Centre for Advanced Photovoltaics (ACAP) Professor Martin Green said.

“We used commercial solar cells, but in a new way, so these efficiency improvements are readily accessible to the solar industry,” added Dr Mark Keevers, the UNSW solar scientist who managed the project.

You won't see this on Fox News, in fact the only energy stuff on the TV are the commercials touting how great fracking, Exxon Mobil, and natural gas is. Nothing but a constant barrage of BS commercials, here in the U.P. of Michigan. Makes me think they are trying to brainwash the public for some ugly plan to frack here, or something else horrible for the land. Our wonderful Governor (not) that just got reelected, wants to sell 11,000 acres of State land to a mining company. This land was ceded to Michigan with a Treaty that it be set aside for Tribal use, in perpetuity. Most of our land here is untouched and the only folks preventing the savage destruction are the Native Americans .... my Tribe is one of them fighting everyday. We need our country to get going with Green Energy projects ... I know that wind energy is a big asset for the U.P..
