[font size=3]Nevada regulators this week rejected a $438 million solar facility planned as part of an NV Energy effort to retire coal-fired electric generators that was to be built on the Moapa River Indian Reservation some 35 miles south of Mesquite.

Instead, the Public Utilities Commission instructed Nevada Power, an NV Energy subsidiary, to issue a request for competitive proposals for a facility to generate 54 megawatts of electricity.

The state Bureau of Consumer Protection cited the cost of the project and said competitive proposals would make the process more transparent.

The Moapa Band of Paiute project would have generated some 200 megawatts of power. It would have ended the need for the Reid-Gardner coal-fired station adjacent to the reservation, as well as the NV Energy’s dependence on all other coal-fired stations.

fossil fuels lobbyists. Part of this project is already under construction and that is for 1.6 billion dollars. This part is for power to the LA basin. BTW,this Reid -Gardner plant sells most of it's power to LA. The big loser in this thing are the Paiute Moapa Band. They live right under the stacks of this filthy thing. And the down wind affect carries particulate matter into South West Utah. They just don't get here in the south west. Lucky we live far enough out of the Smoke plume and fall out area of this thing. Nevada Energy is part of Rocky Mountain Power which has it's own coal mines in east central Utah. Noticed Murry Energy just bought operating rights to a couple of coal seams in Central Utah yesterday, this is the same guy who skated after major lost of life in caveins a few years ago.
