"Is nuclear better than coal?" isn't the right question.
The right question is "What is the best way to replace fossil fuels?"
Nuclear isn't it, renewables are.

(39,166 posts)In areas without access to infrastructure nuclear is worthless, and local solar can make a valuable contribution.

In other locations hydro and geothermal generate carbon-free power without having to fire up natural gas peaking plants (to load balance wind and solar on the grid).
