(First Nuclear) Concrete poured for new Vogtle reactor foundation

Southern Nuclear has begun pouring of specially designed basemat concrete for the foundation of its Unit 3 Plant Vogtle reactor, just three days after similar steps were completed at SCANA’s V.C. Summer plant in South Carolina.

...snip...

Although the Vogtle site was licensed before the Summer project, and had been scheduled for completion ahead of the South Carolina project, the closeness of basemat construction shows the two projects are now on similar schedules.

The basemat pour involves a convoy of trucks that provide a continuous stream of concrete. The pour requires about 50 hours to complete.
