Film "Dear Governor Cuomo" is a Musical Truth Force Against Fracking

The greatest music film I've ever seen is "Dear Governor Cuomo". This concert protest film is hybrid of aggressive environmental advocacy with entrancing music. Beautiful music is followed by dire fracking facts and then more healing music. The result is a digestible yet information-heavy download about one of the most important issues of our time: stopping the destruction of America's water supply from 'natural gas' production.

The film is an impressive use of what Gandhi called "Truth Force." India's non-violence pioneer Mahatma Gandhi named his organization the Satyagraha Movement. Satyagraha means "Truth Force". Movements with the Truth on their side can use Truth as a great power source. This film is powered by Truth, in the form of explaining the science and heart-wrenching testimonies from the victims of fracking. And the music sings deeper Truths, like mourning for already wrecked watersheds, and warnings in lyrics to fracking CEOs that they won't be able to buy their way into Heaven when they meet their Maker.

The film documents a concert of music and education at Albany's Egg Theater in 2012. Natalie Merchant lead the musical direction, creating a night of gospel-infused folk rock from many musicians. Filmgoers will learn about fracking's dangers from Biologist Sandra Steingraber, who explains how fracking can never be made safe because the gas is made radioactive by radon.

"Dear Governor Cuomo" is so named because New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has the power to extend a 4 year moratorium on fracking. The film succeeds in creating a fierce political warning to Cuomo, like when Pete Seeger says "Governor Cuomo, your father may have been the best governor in NY history. If you take their money and allow fracking, you'll go down as one of the worst!"
