Do. Not. Miss.
The scale of what they're photographing really does have to be seen in a theater to make the movie really work.

(59,592 posts)The example, though, of the guy who quit working at Shell after seeing Balog's photography to work full-time on climate issues was pretty cool.

(2,715 posts)I'm always going to gravitate to folks that prefer to find solutions.
It's not in my nature to sit in a heap and moan.
Was there good cinematography?

(2,715 posts)To the best of my knowledge, there's no place to see the film in my neck of the woods.
Damn it!
If you're going to be a tease, at least buy me dinner!
Seriously though, In addition to the CO2 eating balloons I've talked about, some Makers I know are working on CO2 eating rafts.
As long as we don't generate more than 2 more teratons of CO2 within the next 20 years, we can beat the Global Warmin effect within 60 years. I won't live to see it finished, but I figure it's a nice legacy.

who has asked for money?
Your snark has - yet again - failed.

(2,715 posts)that was going to be the lifting gas for the balloons.
Selling the Graphite that wasn't used for extra balloons might be a business.
As for setting things up, I'm still trying to figure out the cheapest control circuits possible. (ie, I don't have the kind of money to front-load 65,000+ balloons with even a $30 computer. It hasto be a control circuit made from magnesium carbide/graphite/cheap plastics.)

(62,276 posts)Start a Kickstarter.
a geek named Bob
(2,715 posts)That could get things moving along rather nicely. Also, if enough money comes in early enough, it could shave YEARS off of the end date. And I could run several editions to this project.
hmmm... This bears thinking about.
I hadn't thought of this project is needing a business plan. I was just going to cobble it together, and let it go on.
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)Go make a plan, post it to Kickstarter / Reddit / Slashdot and even DU and see what happens!
Cobbling ideas together and hoping they magically get picked up is a non-starter.

(2,715 posts)As to the rest:
1.) "raising awareness" is a cop-out, in my opinion.
2.) As per your suggestion... I'll get to it. The hard part is still the cost of the control circuits.

(4,795 posts)Because of Chasing Ice, millions of people who never thought global warming was real or is a threat will have their views radically changed in an couple of hours. Those are millions less opposed to climate change policy. Millions more examining how their lifestyle impacts the larger system. Millions more looking for real solutions, if they exist.
Cop out my ass. Merry Christmas

(62,276 posts)Speculation isn't a solution. Until someone sits down and shows me a way out, then I'm going to be rightly skeptical. It's one reason I am not very enthused with the LFTR folks. They haven't posted a design. Granted, they did start a company, and they are moving forward and their designs are probably going to be patented (and possibly ITAR related), but they at least have a roadmap, even if it is not yet clear.

This is a textbook example of threadjacking.
You're welcome to start an OP talking about your ideas. You're welcome to start 10 OPs talking about your ideas.
You're also welcome to opine that raising awareness is moot without solutions, we all hear that.
But this convo as it stands has wandered far off the OP.
In the future, please try to stay on the topic of the OP and try to remember that although your ideas are interesting, using them in order to dismiss the thoughts and ideas of other people is not OK.
Sincerely,
