do you think extractive industries are rooting for climate change?

do the oil companies have a drawer full of plans for how climate change is going to benefit them? like drilling in the artic? do the koch brothers have a room full of engineers working on mining the tundra?
is that the real prize in this stupid and dangerous game they are playing?

That's the only thing that makes their support for climate changes deniers make any sense. They don't give money for causes unless it does something for them.

If they weren't in a position to profit off climate change, they'd be pushing their legislative lackeys through ALEC to pass tough climate change controls and then build or acquire business subsidiaries to make a shitload of money on compliance. The fact they haven't done so means there is more money to be made from allowing/making climate change happen.

No need for specific "mining the tundra" plans, just the facts that

(i) they are guaranteed profits from Business As Usual
(ii) there will be more opportunity from BAU when the ice has gone

are sufficient to ensure that they will fight unceasingly to make it happen.

Drilling in the Arctic? Yes

Shipping crap from China through the new passage? Yes

Building roads, support camps, airstrips for the "new" extraction locations? Yes

Mineral extraction from Greenland as the ice retreats? Yes

Not one is a "conspiracy theory", just standard, routine Business As Usual
for the sole purpose of short-term profit (and f*ck the future).

Their only gamble is that someone will notice before they've stashed the loot.
("Someone" = "someone who isn't profiting from this but who is powerful enough
to make a difference". Don't count on any "Hope" or "Change" on that score.)
