http://solarimg.org/?p=3021Gundersen: At this point my mind is changing, and I think perhaps on Units 1, 2, 3, and 4 the best thing to do is to keep them cool for a couple more years and then entomb them for 300 and come back. Unit 4 is a different story, weve got to get the fuel out

(13,685 posts)Glad to see someone thinking about the future as opposed to the utter denial from most of the "nuclear intelligentsia ".
If just 10% of the nukies could be brave like you and speak the truth for once, solutions could be found and actions begun to solve this crisis. As it is, they are afraid to speak out. They all saw the financial and emotional damage inflicted on you and they are scared into submission.
So thanks again Arnie for your bravery and thanks for thinking of the safety of the people instead of profits and image of the MIC nuke waste producers and bomb making fools.

(39,321 posts)He sticks his neck out and we can see the shrill reaction right here on DU plenty of the time. Anyone in government is keeping this as low profile as possible, why aren't we getting news on this? He seems to be the only one daring to speak, yet things are at a critical stage and the risk is enormous.

(13,685 posts)And nothing has happened to stop the releases of radiation.
And no 'official' solutions have been presented. Of course, what happened at Fukushima was something banksters of the nukies ever allowed to be carefully studied, so when it happened they were all caught naked and stupid and they can't seem to dig themselves out of the hole they are in.
Of course, as a humanist (as opposed specifically to a nukie) i can understand the responsible nukies abject horror and shame they feel as a result of this event, and can see why the smartest of them would just shut up.
The rest of us just have to fend for ourselves and thank our lucky stars that we have at least one of them brave enough to speak up for us.

(26,757 posts)How about slowed it?
Why don't you take a wild guess at what percentage of the peak release from last March represents the average release rate now?
50%? 10%? 1%? .1%?

(13,685 posts)The only reason it has slowed is because they have fixed some of the pipes, filled the fuel pools with water, kept some pumps running. Etc.
TEPCO have not stopped releases. Every once in a while you can see steam escaping from the area. Several reactor buildings are not even safe enough for robots to enter and keep working. There is not containment at those reactors.
Chernobyl was entombed. Not Fukushima, not yet.
You tube has some scary videos of the releases at this you tube link:

(26,757 posts)Seriously... how much do you think is currently being released?
The only reason it has slowed is because they have fixed some of the pipes, filled the fuel pools with water, kept some pumps running. Etc.
Wait... the only reason it has slowed is that they are taking the actions necessary to cut releases? You're not seriously going to pretend that zero progress is made until the number hits zero are you?
Oh... and of course those are not the only reasons. There's also simple physics. Releases are down substantially because the activity levels in what were once active cores have fallen dramatically over the last 17 months.

The free entertainment never ends with you, does it?
Have you ever heard of "chemtrails"? You know that they're the active imagination of overly paranoid individuals... right? People look up at the sky and see normal contrails from passing planes and they convince themselves that it's a secret government program to spread chemical/biological agents. They are exactly on the same level as the nuts who used to wear tinfoil hats to protect them against the government mind-control waves.
You seem reasonably sane, so I'm just going to assume that you don't buy into that particular hoax... but now I need to warn you that you're falling here for the same level of paranoid nonsense. Look back over the last year or so (usually on UFO and other conspiracy websites, but frequently spread to your favorite Fukushima source) and you will see dozens of times when people looked at that webcam and pronounced breathlessly that Fukushima was on fire!!!... or explosions!!!... or gone entirely!!! or that SFP4 had collapsed!!! (sorry... they're almost always accompanied by "!!!" . Some will point out that it's almost always at night, so it must be timed to hide the releases (though they never explain why TEPCO put a webcam there if that's the case).
I've got news for you friend... it's fog. Not huge radioactive releases from cores that are still desperately being cooled but boiling all the water away to steam. The plant is right next to the ocean. Fog is quite common. And here you are looking at fog and calling it a "scary video".
As I said... thanks. I needed the laugh.
For 17 months the melted cores have been releasing directly to the atmosphere. Glad to see someone else admit that releases have been ongoing all this time.
As for the youtube link, there are hundreds of videos of Fukushima and many, many of those show actual emissions from the reactors, especially #3. These videos capture some of the emissions that have been ongoing for 17 months.
