New Tesla battery technology

Found this on twitter >>> Ric Fulop 🚀? @ricfulop

1/ New chemistry breakthrough just published by Jeff Dahn. @tesla lead battery researcher. 1M vehicle miles, 795Wh/L, with fast charge and subsequent 20yr durability projected in grid. The data is amazing.

This means @tesla will be able to expand the SOC swing of the battery to go to 400 miles or reduce its cost!

Second life of these packs will change the nature of the grid in the future. As a former battery exec this data is very, very impressive. Thanks @BrianTHeligman for pointing me to the paper! And huge kudos to Jeff and the Dallhausie team for pulling this off.

I keep waiting until the battery pack will charge the house without costing as much as the house.

Will charge the house? Powerwalls don't cost anywhere near even one years payments on a house.

If you can get 25% more range from the same size battery pack (just guesstimating from the 400 mile figure) then you can reduce the size of the battery pack for the same range which reduces weight of the car which means the charge on the batteries last longer.

And just what you expect when you get to economies of scale. Large scale mfg justifies spending on a lot of advanced R&D.

This chemistry eliminates most of the cobalt, improves energy, charge rate and more importantly allows a larger SOC swing (much lower cost & weight) and does this with a 5X life improvement!

I am shocked they are open sourcing it as a model chemistry! It means they probably have an improved version and even if they don't it gives @tesla a MASSIVE battery price performance edge over all EV competitors. I am not BS'ing when I say this ❤️
