Batteries provider Younicos said on Tuesday it will install and commission a 10-MW energy storage system upgrade at the site of TerraForm Power’s (NASDAQ:TERP) 30-MW Kaheawa wind farm in Hawaii.
Under the terms of the newly-signed deal, Younicos will replace existing lead-acid batteries at the site with advanced Samsung SDI lithium-ion batteries.
The new units will be primarily used to provide ramping services to smooth out wind variability, the company said in a statement. It expects to complete the project in the second half of 2018.
