Arizona's TEP seeks 150 MW of wind power through new RfP

Arizona utility Tucson Electric Power (TEP) is launching this week a request for proposals (RFP) targeting between 100 MW and 150 MW of wind power.

The company said in a statement it will seek proposals for both long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) and build-transfer agreements, under which it would acquire the wind park upon completion. The proposals should be tied to projects with at least 100 MW capacity. TEP will also take into consideration proposals for the provision of ancillary services and supporting energy storage systems.

Interested parties are expected to register starting on January 18. TEP wants to contract with the successful bidder this year and begin receiving power in 2021. New Hampshire-based Accion Group is managing the RfP process.

In its 2017 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) that was submitted to the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) in April 2017, TEP says it intends to add 800 MW of fresh renewables by 2030 and to gradually deploy up to 100 MW of energy storage capacity. At present, the share of renewable power in the company’s portfolio reaches 11%. The goal is to hit 30% by 2030.
