to-the-point: Offshore wind to reach 115 GW by 2030 - BNEF January 8 (Renewables Now)
The global offshore wind market will expand to a cumulative capacity of 115 GW by 2030 from 17.6 GW now, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF).
This represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16%.
Deployments will be driven by the UK, Germany, Netherlands and China, which will overtake the UK as installations leader by 2022, BNEF says. Taiwan and the US will also become gigawatt markets in the next decade, the research firm adds. It has increased its forecast for the US because of new state targets.
BNEF expects that annual additions will peak in 2027 as the expiry of offshore wind subsidies and a lack of regulatory transparency will lead to a slowdown after 2028.
