Gasoline Prices Around the World: The Real Cost of Filling Up

Global gas prices are on the rise—about 4.4 percent, on average, in the last three months. It’s a big jump, but the burden of filling up is felt differently in every country. We ranked 61 countries by three economic measures to see who has the most affordable gas and who feels the most pain at the pump.

The link provides an interesting map and graphics on the pump price of fuel across the world.

so for many countries, that comparison is not meaningful (eg France is 0.56% of salary, compared with Germany 1.07% and UK 1.11%, despite roughly similar prices and salaries. France is well known for a high proportion of diesel cars).

(their note says "Figures for gas consumption are based on UN data for motor gasoline by road in 2013" - I suspect this: http://unstats.un.org/unsd/energy/yearbook/2014/t18.pdf . That has a per capita figure for gasoline for the USA of 1213kg for 2013; gas is 0.77kg/litre, and 3.78 litres/US gallon, so that's 1575l, or 417 US gallons - basically their "average driver uses 420.11 gallons a year" figure. France used 123kg of gasoline per capita; Germany 215kg. So this makes sense. That would also mean it's not 'per driver' either; it's per person, and includes gas used by commercial vehicles too.

Add in our military protecting the sea lanes and the effects of bowing to our Saudi "friends".
