(101,347 posts)so for many countries, that comparison is not meaningful (eg France is 0.56% of salary, compared with Germany 1.07% and UK 1.11%, despite roughly similar prices and salaries. France is well known for a high proportion of diesel cars).
(their note says "Figures for gas consumption are based on UN data for motor gasoline by road in 2013" - I suspect this: http://unstats.un.org/unsd/energy/yearbook/2014/t18.pdf . That has a per capita figure for gasoline for the USA of 1213kg for 2013; gas is 0.77kg/litre, and 3.78 litres/US gallon, so that's 1575l, or 417 US gallons - basically their "average driver uses 420.11 gallons a year" figure. France used 123kg of gasoline per capita; Germany 215kg. So this makes sense. That would also mean it's not 'per driver' either; it's per person, and includes gas used by commercial vehicles too.
