Strom Engineering boasts that it helps companies with union problems set operating records and reach “equitable” contracts with locked out workers.

The achievements featured on the Minnetonka, Minn., company’s website ring hollow for union workers replaced by Strom personnel during bitter labor disputes.

“Their business is pain and misery for working people,” said an official of the Bakery, Confectionary, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers Union, whose 1,300 members endured nearly a two-year lockout at American Crystal Sugar Co. that began in August 2011. “They’re just a misery machine,” said the union representative, who asked not to be identified.

United Steelworkers union officials say Strom is bringing replacement workers to Pittsburgh, a city with a long history of violent confrontations between labor and management.
