LINCOLN A year ago, Amanda Baker hugged her 6-year-old son, David, and promised to be back soon after working a shift as a substitute guard at the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center.
The 24-year-old single mother loved working at the jail and was studying to become a nurse. She eventually wanted to transfer to a corrections facility in Wyoming.
She never got the chance.
Baker was strangled to death by a 15-year-old inmate on Feb., 14, 2014 after being lured into his cell in an attempt to get her keys and escape.
