Michigan workers are working towards a November constitutional amendment ballot question that would make collective bargaining a constitutional right in Michigan. The Protect Our Jobs Campaign was launched earlier this month. Todd Cook is from We Are The People.
[Todd Cook]:This amendment, simply put will enshrine into our state constitution the basic right for every worker to collectively bargain. Collective bargaining gives all workers a voice, it helps workers negotiate a fair contract, it keeps workers safe and it keeps the families they serve safe as well.
Flint teacher Jeff Bean.
[Jeff Bean]: The proposed constitutional amendment would establish the peoples right to organize, to form, join or assist unions to bargain collectively regarding their ages, hours and other conditions of employment. It would prohibit employers from retaliating against employees for exercising those rights. And it would prohibit government from interfering with those rights.
