Freedom, Independence, and The America Dream.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” — Declaration of Independence, July 4th 1776

Today we celebrate our nation’s independence from the tyrannical dictatorship of the British Crown. Our founding fathers believed that we should be free men and we should be allowed to govern ourselves.

Flash forward 237 years and we are still fighting for our freedoms that were set into law in 1776. The Supreme Court of the United States just passed a landmark decision that confirms that all men (and women) are created equal no matter what their sexual preference is. This decision will help move the rest of the country to adopt laws that protect the rights of our LGBT community.

In the same week, the SCOTUS gutted the Voters Rights Act, chipping away at our right to govern ourselves.. The right to vote is crucial to our democracy and vital to a representative form of government. The Supreme Court says that discrimination and oppression does not exist anymore, but this is simply untrue. States are passing laws designed to keep certain types of eligible voters from being allowed to vote. .This is happening in many states under the guise of “preventing voter fraud”.
