Locked-out Crystal workers prepare for 5th vote
Locked-out American Crystal Sugar workers are preparing to vote once again on the same contract they've already rejected four times.It's been 20 months since locked out workers stepped foot into factories, and this time around union leaders believe the vote will be the slimmest it's ever been. Local President John Riskey says union members have been asking for another vote to better understand worker's views. Each time the union has casted votes, the percentage of members who reject the contract has decreased. In December, 55 percent of workers voted against the current contract. President Riskey says there's no other way to predict tomorrow other then saying it's been a democratic process through and through.
Riskey: "All of the members I would have to say without a doubt would like to see something that's fair and reasonable from both sides and they haven't seen that from crystal sugar yet."
The members will be considering the company's contract proposal along with a return-to-work agreement.
