Quote for the Day:

The phenomenon of the angry white male has been widely credited with the profound shift to the right in Congress since the 1994 congressional elections, but the anger and anxiety go beyond the white male. Millions of Americans – male and female, white and people of color, from the upper middle class to the poor – are apprehensive about their social and economic well-being, their personal safety, and their ability to take care of themselves and their family members in an environment in which little seems secure. Widespread alienation from traditional political leaders and from the political process is clearly evident: People all over the country are participating in the increasingly harsh discourse of talk radio as well as other forms of popular culture. Significant numbers of Americans are forming themselves into armed militias.

Anyone who isn't anxious about their ecomonic future hasn't paid attention for the last 40 years. Reagan changed a host of laws to allow the richest to suck all the wealth away from working people, creating grotesqueries at the top like the Mercers, Musk, and Thiel, while everybody else fell down the economic scale a little more every year.

The only good news is that their most effective propagandist is still dead.

I figured I'd try to stick with as many quotes from woman as I could, and "Keeping Women and Children Last" seemed painfully appropriate.

The worst of it, Sidel wasn't alone. There were so many back in '96 and of course long before that who saw the current crises building. And so few of the so-called liberals did anything about it. Oh, wait, they still aren't. And for those who did and who are, far too few are listening.

Robert Reich's Substack today, "Escaping Trump's revenge," is chilling but for those of us who have been paying attention it's not any surprise.

I’ve heard similar concerns in recent months from lawmakers, officials, prosecutors, journalists, and celebrities who have been publicly critical of Trump.

They worry about Trump’s promise of “retribution” if reelected, his intention to direct the Justice Department to investigate “every Marxist prosecutor in America,” his claim that his indictments have “released the genie out of the box” that would allow him to weaponize the government against his opponents, and his vow to “root out … the radical-left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country.”

There's a lot to be anxious about. Has been for a loooooooooooooooooooong time.
