The nation's two busiest container ports, the Los Angeles and Long Beach, on Tuesday reported declines in export volumes in May, amid the ongoing trade war with China.
The two port complexes together handle about 40% of the nation's containerized import trade with China, and the trade war boosted demand for what was already tight market conditions for warehouse space in the Southern California region.
For LA, it marks the port's 7th straight month of declines in loaded outbound cargo.
The Port of Long Beach, meantime, reported a double-digit plunge in imports in May, which economists suggest may reflect retailer concern about inventory levels.
LOS ANGELES America's top two busiest container ports, the Los Angeles and Long Beach, on Tuesday reported declines in export volumes in May amid an ongoing trade war with China. For LA, it marks the port's 7th straight month of declines in exports.
The Port of Long Beach meanwhile registered a 19.5% decline in imports in May, which economists suggested may reflect big-box retailer concerns about inventory levels.

(34,661 posts)on both UP and BNSF via live feeds. First thing noticed, the reduction in the numbers, and notice both Rails have increased the length of Trains to increase profitability since both Rails have mothballed thousands of Locomotives due to lack of commodity and Container business.
The direct negative of this is the increase probability of massive Derailments do to reduced Track and Equipment Maintenance.
Instead of 167 cars per train,we are now seeing up to high 200's. Just what can possible go wrong with that, answer,CSX and NS proved my point.

(57,489 posts)This is DC-area. There are hills and curves to consider. Maybe in your terrain that's not as much a factor.
We get two, maybe three 4,400- or 6,000-locomotives on the front. No DPU that I've seen.

(34,661 posts)corridor's that because of Track conditions and terrain, you will see mostly 160's. West of you,CSX is running the mega monsters. NS is having all kinds of issues with these suckers along the Atlantic Coast lines down to Florida. If you follow the Train watcher vlogs, notice there is a least one Derail per day. And some days two or three.
Caught a BNSF Z going through Belen New Mexico with 12 power units on it understand that consist was in the high 200's and headed to Chicago.
Caught the Largest test train ever three years ago in Laramie Wyoming. Sixteen Power units,Six on the head end two on the tail, the rest were DPUed in pairs through out the total consist. This Train was originated in Omaha and run thru to San Francisco area. Irony, this consist ran Main Track all the way. All other Trains were side tracked our Annulled that day. BTW,this sucker went over Donner Pass.

(11,885 posts)You start trade wars costing trillions, give huge tax cuts to the wealthiest 1% in the country! or cut Medicaid!Medicare! and social security and all social programs by trillions! or run the deficit sky high and con people into accepting that as good for the country!when it clearly isn't. He lies and claims this is good, again the opposite of the truth.
