Economy
Related: About this forumI've written about it elsewhere. May as well add Economy to the list....
We've probably all heard of people getting laid off by email or by texting.
We'll I just got dumped without notice by schedule. Meaning, I showed up to the UC lab on Saturday and during my morning routine, needed to check the schedule to see who to call about something up at the big hospital.
Surprised to find the September schedule posted, because I usually get a call from the scheduler (I'm per diem) with advance notice. I hadn't heard from her, so was a little concerned.
Yeah, now I know why. After 4 years of regular scheduling, to the point of being p/t without the tiny p/t benefits, I was simply no longer on the schedule.
I saw the lab manager on Wednesday. Turns out, just when I thought my workload may increase due to multiple people retiring at the the end of the year, instead another hospital closed so they hired back a tech that had worked for them in the past 4 months before the tech she's replacing leaves. And they hired their personal friend per diem who used to be full-time, to take over a training position. So they're overstaffed and I'm out. They *may* be able to offer me a 12-hour/week position after both retirees actually retire.
Oh, and (adding insult to injury) she didn't want me to think she didn't appreciate all I've done for them. She just forgot to call on Saturday because she was so busy getting ready for the CAP inspection. (Because, you know, they didn't know all of this going down until late Friday night. Seriously, how stupid and gullible do they think I am?).
Lined up my 4th reference yesterday. Taking application to local animal shelter tomorrow for p/t (just 8-12 hours/week) shelter attendant job. Wish me luck. I think I prefer spending my time hanging with dogs and cats to hanging with labrats.

(111,332 posts)I hope you get well enough known that you're able to parlay the job into regular vet lab work, I agree that I'd rather work with critters than people any old day.

Good luck to you, MT.

(14,881 posts)a locally well-known radio personality came in to the urgent care critical with an MI. The on duty team stabilized the patient for shipment to a hospital. I did my part.
That's what they take advantage of. From another job, I could have walked the moment I saw what was going on. If I'd walked from this job, the hospital would have no baseline troponin to track the progress or ptt to track the therapy.
