Boeing could locate plants overseas, state aerospace recruiter says
Published: July 18, 2013
By JOHN GILLIE — john.gillie@thenewstribune.com

As a global company, Boeing ultimately may spread its commercial aircraft manufacturing activities far beyond the Puget Sound area and its new assembly site in South Carolina, Washington’s chief aerospace recruiter told a gathering of aerospace industry executives Wednesday.

Alex Pietsch, director of the Washington State Office of Aerospace, told the Pierce County Aerospace Summit that the company may follow its rival Airbus in dispersing its factories more widely.

Boeing builds the majority of its commercial aircraft at two sites in the Puget Sound area, Renton and Everett.

Pietsch said Boeing seems committed to expanding its presence in South Carolina, but the company’s plans at some point may even include building some of its jetliners overseas, he said.

Companies bid on parts and then could not deliver on the quality needed to meet Boeing/FAA standards. Boeing spent twice as much money taking over these small parts manufacturer and producing the parts they needed

Last year they closed the Wichita plant they had operated for 50 yeas..coincidentally, the same month the Wichita plant closed, their new Chinese plant opened..

Airplanes are a product which can be made anywhere and simply delivered anyplace else..2 people and a tank of fuel can deliver the largest aircraft boeing produces, from anywhere on the planet to anywhere on the planet....

But I would no more fly in a Chinese-made plane than I would feed a baby Chinese-made formula.

NPR reported on a family in China only feeds their baby babyfood flown directly from Germany in sealed packages....

There are thousands of Airbus' flying in the U.S. right now. All the airlines care about is how many bums can be put in seats for the lowest cost, and if that means buying foreign aircraft, they are perfectly willing to go that route.
