Vital Signs Chart: Fewer Mass Layoffs

U.S. employers conducted 1,337 mass layoffs — job cuts involving at least 50 workers — during March involving 127,939 workers, seasonally adjusted. That was down by more than 7,500 workers from a month earlier and the lowest number of workers since September. The number of mass layoffs peaked in early 2009 at 3,079, seasonally adjusted, involving more than 334,000 workers.
