Martin Zweig, Who Forecast ’87 Market Crash, Dies at 70
Sad news. He was always worth watching. He was quite often downbeat about the way things were going. I miss the show, I miss Lou, and now I miss Marty.

Martin Zweig, an influential investor and television pundit who predicted the 1987 stock market crash, published a closely followed newsletter and in 1999 made what at the time was the most expensive residential purchase in New York history, died on Monday at his home in Fisher Island, Fla. He was 70. ... His death was announced by his firm, Zweig-DiMenna Associates. No cause was given.
....
On Friday, Oct. 16, 1987, Mr. Zweig made one of his regular appearances on Wall Street Week With Louis Rukeyser, but it had been far from a regular week. The stock market had been in a sudden, sharp decline, dropping more than 10 percent.
Early in the program, Mr. Rukeyser turned to Mr. Zweig, an academic who had become an analyst, and asked whether he believed the bull market was dead. ... I havent been looking for a bear market per se, Mr. Zweig responded solemnly. Ive been really, in my own mind, looking for a crash.
The following Monday, Oct. 19, the market fell 508 points, a nearly 23 percent decline, to 1,734.78.
