Media trying to cause market crash before election?

Last edited Fri Oct 19, 2012, 05:49 PM - Edit history (2)

I casually listen to the news and it seems all I hear today is about the 25th anniversary of the 1987 stock market crash, subtly tying it into the down market. It sounds to me like they are trying to scare investors to crash the market right before the election.
The most popular story on Wall St Journal's "Marketwatch" website is the "Coming Crash" warning investors to get out now!

and had to giggle...the talk there is about this being a perfect opportunity to "short Goldman Sucks..." The market fluctuates, but make no mistake about it....investors are in it for the money, not the election....No one knows better than the investor class that the market does better with a Dem in the White House....so while the bankers may be pissed at Obama for dising them, (And Andrew Ross Sorkin said earlier today that Wall St. is now hedging their bets and donating to Obama) the big time investors may prefer even lower taxes, ultimately they want Big Time Returns on their Investments.

tanks Europe and makes a recovery here really difficult. Also, Romney has promised to get rid of Bernanke...without Uncle Ben the market will have a very hard time recovering....

I think the market has the jitters because of the Banking sector and then it didn't help that Google missed it's earnings....We won't know for another week or two...but I don't think this a vast conspiracy

I still am convinced they are fear-mongering for an "October Surprise" event. Fdr said, "The only thing we have to fear is fear" Just the fact of fear can crash the market without rationality involved.

There is no market---it's a shill, gambling at a fixed table. If the market crashes it will be because:

1. The algorithms got too hot to handle

2. One elephant attacked another (when elephants dance, the mice get out of the way....)

3. Reality took over. This is the least likely scenario, by the way.

Peak oil is crawling along at a snail's pace too. To get decent ratings they need a disaster that happens at cable news speed like overnight global financial collapse. Those other forms of disaster just don't happen quickly enough for prime time T.V. I mean, 25-foot sea level rise in the next 100 years? A hundred years?!? You can't sell that as breaking news. Who cares about a hundred years? Tell me what will destroy civilization in a week or two. That's what they need for ratings.
