Dear Guardian / Observer editors

This op-ed by Hector Abad makes at least two false claims that should
be corrected.

It states

"Chávez also claimed that the earthquake in Haiti was the work of the
US marines. "

This whopper originated win the ABC Newspaper in Spain which has a
track record of publising such falsehoods about the Chavez government.

And yet, somehow, he managed to out-think and out-maneuver his enemies for 14 years. I actually don't mind that the oligarchs refuse to question their own assumptions, as that fact makes it all the more likely that they will continue their journey into the dustbin of history.

...how they just make things up out of nowhere, without presenting any proof, any evidence, absolutely nothing, counting only on their readers' inability to check facts, question or research beyond of what they say. Like the other news story about Chávez been dead a long ago.

Nowadays, anyone who cares about being really informed can not count on mainstream media. We got to read what they say, and then try to found out how much of that is true and how much is bullshit, and how much was omitted.
