$1000 from LAX to HAV? Nein danke for a four hour flight. Plus, they charge for hand luggage if it's makes the total of your luggage greater than 44 lbs.

How about $550 from Miami to Havana - 40 minutes and you must be there 4 hours early?

Via Cancun or Nassau or as the article mentions Tijuana is half the price or less.

Plus, the tours are mostly hype. Who has $5000 for a week in Cuba? If you are careful it can be one fifth of that. The tours are overpriced because they promise access. It looks more like greed on all sides and in the end Cuba doesn't have the infrastructure or even the necessary tourist draws to bring in that many, at those prices. It is really for Canadian or European snow birds, many in all inclusives, and curious travelers who want to see Cuba before it changes. That pool of people isn't all that big after all, not at those prices.

But it might not be such a bad thing for the evolution of Cuba. Another few years until the Spring Breakers arrive anyway.

Soon we will end the Miami Mafia-sponsored embargo nonsense and reestablish full diplomatic relations with Cuba, Spirit Air will start $55 red eye flights to Cuba, and Tamayo will get a job cleaning toilets for the Tampa Bay Times.
