Cuba quietly authorises euthanasia

HAVANA — Cuba on Friday (Dec 22) became the second country in Latin America and the Caribbean to authorise euthanasia, following Colombia.

The Communist-run country's National Assembly passed the measure as part of legislation updating the nation's legal framework for its universal and free healthcare system.

"The right of people to a dignified death is recognised in end-of-life decisions, which may include the limitation of therapeutic effort, continuous or palliative care, and valid procedures that end life," the final draft of the legislation stated.

Euthanasia and medically assisted suicide, opposed by most religions, sparks huge controversy around the world where just a handful of countries allow the practice and some equate it with murder.

I agree wholeheartedly with this new policy! To leave with some dignity? Hell yeah! Make no mistake most dying is not like that. Thank you for posting and thank Cuba for showing the way.

then, if a human is slowly dying with a body ridden with cancer, it is wrong to end their life.

our pet, and I commented I didn't want to see him suffer..........................

And yet, there are many people/groups/religions that don't want voluntary euthanasia allowed for humans...........

It's the SOUL that separates humans from animals.

When you look into the eyes of a cat, dog, horse, etc., you look into their SOULS. They SEE you. That is when they seal the bond with uou. They add something to our lives in unique ways, that we mourn them when we have to let them go, lest they suffer.

Letting humans go in a dignified manner when there is no chance of recovery, is also proper. My brother was literally brain dead. He had no positive prognosis. He was taken off life support and lasted 15 minutes. His suffering was over.

Letting animals suffer is inhumane as is letting humans suffer.

Forced life is a huge source of profit for hospital and nursing homes.

Think of the poor millionaires who might suffer lost income. Think of the poor politicians who wouldn't get huge donations. Think of the poor religious leaders who wouldn't be able to use others suffering to extend their power.

This is bigger than dying with dignity, in peace rather than pain or suffering. This is about power and profit. What is everyone thinking?
