Ecuador's president won't host his radio and TV program during campaign for re-election

Ecuador's president won't host his radio and TV program during campaign for re-election
By The Associated Press December 29, 2012 5:03 PM

QUITO, Ecuador - President Rafael Correa of Ecuador says he won't host his weekly radio and television program while campaigning for another term in the February presidential election.

Correa said Saturday he does not want opponents to accuse him of using state media to get an edge.

Vice-President Lenin Moreno will host the program during the campaign in which the leftist Correa is seeking a third term.

Correa was first elected president in 2006. He has built a solid base of support by implementing populist programs that have widened Ecuador's social safety net and increased spending on education.
