BRAZILIAN president Jair Bolsonaro is losing political support, analysts have said as his government drew ire for refusing to publish the countrys mounting coronavirus deaths.
More than 36,000 people have died of Covid-19 there, making it the third-worst affected country. But on Friday the health ministry ceased publishing cumulative totals on its website. After a backlash, it vowed on Monday to restore the toll but with changes to how deaths are recorded.
Protests against Mr Bolsonaro (pictured), who has strongly opposed virus lockdown measures, were held across 20 Brazilian cities at the weekend.
More than 30 requests for his impeachment have been submitted to the countrys congress, and a Datafolha poll last month found only 30 per cent of Brazilians approved of his approach to the pandemic.
The president has tried to energise his base in return, joining weekend rallies in the capital, Brasilia, that feature banners denouncing the Supreme Court and congress.
