President of Chile closes 2019 with 11 percent approval rating

Santiago de Chile, Dec 30 (Prensa Latina) Chilean President Sebastian Piñera saw his approval rating drop to just 11% as the year comes to a close, while 80 percent of Chileans disapprove of his administration, the Plaza Publica poll revealed today.

The poll undertaken by Cadem Consultancy, a firm close to the government, also indicates that the president's support plummeted in the last four months, when he averaged 32 percent support in September, 24% in October, 13% in November and 12% this month.

The survey questioned respondents as to the priorities that they believed the government should have, which coincided with the demands of the popular movement on the streets since October 18.

Respondents noted, in order of importance, increased pensions, improved public health, higher wages, the approval of a new Constitution, quality public education, elimination of inequalities, as well as the fight against crime and corruption.

Macri left office with 30% approval - and this despite 53% inflation, a $100 billion debt default, and the worst recession since the 2002 crisis.

I suppose it speaks well of Chilean voters' standards - and very poorly of Argentine right-wingers, who, like U.S. Republicans, will support anyone who caters to their racism. No matter how calamitous their tenure.

"Ha! My approval is better than your approval, Seba."

"Yes - but at least I didn't bankrupt my country, Mauri."
