Peace to promote country's economic growth: Colombian president

BOGOTA, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said Thursday if the peace process with the rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerrilla group becomes successful, the economic growth of the country will be promoted.


According to official figures, Colombia witnessed 5.9 percent of economic growth in 2011 and it is projected that the country's economic growth will stand at 4.6 percent in 2012.

Santos also said while the rest of the world is struggling with the economic recovery, his country is going forward with a good rhythm.

"We have an advantageous situation before the rest of the world which is going through a very difficult situation," he said.
