Another corruption scandal uncovered in Panama
Panama, Oct 14 (Prensa Latina) A new corruption scandal revealed on Monday by the daily La Estrella de Panama, involves a construction company owned by Mexican Carlos Slim, which allegedly bribed officials of the Ricardo Martinelli administration (2009-2014).
The file kept secret and to which the source had access, refers to the Spanish parent company Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas S.A. (FCC), registered in Panama as FCC Construcción America S.A., which accepted the crime of 'corruption of public officials and against the public administration' and will enter into an effective collaboration agreement with the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The case is based on the statements of Julio Casla Garcia and Eugenio del Barrio Gomez, former FCC executives, who responded to the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) interrogations between June 19 and 25, at the offices of Panama's embassy in Madrid, according to media reports.
Del Barrio is currently a senior executive of the Spanish transnational OHL, which together with Mota-Engil, from Portugal, on July 24, 2018 won the bid for the extension of Line One of the Metro, for an amount of more than 177 million dollars, the newspaper reported on its online edition.
