Colombia detains, deports renowned journalist on entry

by Adriaan Alsema October 2, 2019

Colombia’s migration authority detained and deported a renowned Mexican journalist on Tuesday.

Photo journalist Alejandra Rajal was invited by the International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF), but was stopped at Bogota‘s El Dorado airport and deported around midnight, local journalist Claudia Duque said on Twitter.

“The weird thing is that she was detained before reaching the line of Migration. She was held for eight hours without any communication with the IWMF and her colleagues,” said Duque.

It is unclear how the authorities knew the journalist was traveling to Colombia ahead of her arrival at the Migration booth.
