Venezuela crisis: Maduro says 'fascist' coup foiled

27 June 2019

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro says security forces have foiled a plot to assassinate him and install a former defence minister as premier.

He said the "fascist" plot had involved opposition leader Juan Guaidó backed by the US, Colombia and Chile.

Mr Guaidó denied the accusation, saying the media had "lost count" of how many such allegations had been made.

The president has intensified a crackdown on the opposition since Mr Guaidó led a failed uprising in April.

Creating new seats on the Supreme Court and stacking them with political hacks? Not a coup.

Supreme Court declares opposition-controlled parliament illegitimate? Not a coup.

A committee gets elected to rewrite the constitution and 100% of the seats go to Maduro's party amid allegations of election-fraud? Not a coup.

The constitution-writing committee declares itself the new parliament and starts passing laws? Not a coup.

Considering the President of Chile is a Socialist. Socialist Michelle Bachelet is the president and they had their own little military dictator coup with the mass murderer Pinochet.

Huh, I would think Chile would be more conservative about interfering in other countries' coups considering they had their own US backed 9-11 and it involved the mass murderer Pinochet. Very strange.
