The supermarket he is at is Gama Excelsior Plus in the Miranda area. Its interesting to note how he touts the availability of products while at the same time how expensive they are (and Venezuelans can't afford.)

(3,268 posts)You fail to identify who he is,What he said, or what the prices are. Otherwise a perfect hit piece. Oh-and the provenance of the photo. Then this might be germane.

(2,412 posts)Max said that Venezuelan markets were a land of plenty! Plenty of food for everyone. Cheeses and meats, fish heads, meat and more meat. He was happy to trot around a very high end supermarket ((Caracas, GAMA.. with covered, secured parking!) showing off the beer he bought and the Greek yogurt he could purchase. As well as dog food. $20 a bag... which he bitched about. Pastas, mangos, toilet paper.
Curiously absent from the video was El Pueblo. Not allowed in (armed guards) because they're not the type to appreciate a GAMA-esque shopping experience.
Enjoy!

(3,268 posts)Decided it was common knowledge and that you know better than the guy in-country? That's a couple of strange assumptions.

(2,412 posts)1. What is clear is that you hate the United States. I happen to love my country. (Does my avatar mean anything to you?)
2. You know nothing about Venezuela.
So some advice, if you are the type to accept it: Reserve your online thoughts to shit you know about. You will have much more peace of mind.
Is there an "I HATE AMERICA" forum at DemocraticUnderground?
Good luck to you

Sure you didn't alert on yourself?

(6,837 posts)and still have a 10 cents left over. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-venezuela-politics-wage/venezuelas-maduro-hikes-minimum-wage-300-percent-idUSKCN1P82E2
ARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Monday raised the minimum wage by 300 percent to 18,000 bolivars per month, around $6.70, as part of routine wage hikes in an economy suffering from annual inflation approaching 2 million percent.

(2,412 posts)16-18 cents per day, depending on who is buying/selling.
I wonder how much beer a minimum wage earning Blumenthal would be buying in GAMA?

(6,837 posts)he was shopping in. The Gama Excelsior Plus in Caracas as I mentioned. I don't care to know too much more about him. Miguel might have some more info for you.

(3,268 posts)And you have no proof of anything. You posted a photo with nothing even to identify it and then tag teamed with a known Maduro opponent to spread unsupported garbage. I will give it the consideration it earned-none.

(6,837 posts)I will give that due consideration before deciding to reply further

(2,412 posts)Go to about 1:30 in the video I provided. Look familiar?
GAMA is high end. You won't find them where "Walmart" people congregate.
Max Blumenthal has a Marxist/Leninist agenda. He makes blanket suppositions about the economy without offering a modicum of proof. All based on a stroll through a high-end supermarket that El Pueblo cannot afford, nor allowed in.
But you knew that.
FWIW, I have been to GAMA many times. There are about 7 (big ones) of them in eastern Caracas. Many smallish ones. All in areas El Pueblo does not go, unless they work there.

(285 posts)......you might find at least one supermarket that's very well-stocked. Our stepdaughter (who recently quit the country and headed to Spain) said there was one in Lecheria which is in Barcelona on the coast. Stocked full of imported products. Products paid for with dollars bought on the open market, and with goods that cost significantly more than they do in the States. And there are some people in Lecheria who can actually afford to shop there. I'd image alta-chavistas and those who have managed to hang on to their wealth via investments outside the country, buy there.
No one else can afford the products. For most, it's not even close.

(2,412 posts)Max Blumenthal didn't hit up the corner market in areas where El Pueblo lives. He found some high end joint that had anything and everything... if the price was right. He even bitched about the cost of dog food.
But I didn't hear a peep out of him in regards to the price of food compared to the minimum wage... he went off on a rant about vile Capitalists and racketeers and hoarders and exploiters. Marx 101. I suppose its only a matter of time before El Pueblo says "fuck it" and goes all in for looting. I read that they already started at La Pirámide in Caracas.
