December 16, 2018.- A political agreement could dismantle the country's international blockade, said the member of the national board of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Elias Jaua, in an interview with Carlos Croes.

"A great opportunity for a political agreement with the opposition was lost to guarantee greater political stability and break the international siege and create better conditions for what matters most to Venezuelans, which is the recovery of the economy," said Jaua.

Jaua hinted at the possibility that the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) call elections again to choose a new parliament, since according to their criteria, the National Assembly is in "contempt" and "without legitimacy."

He explained that because the ANC is not recognized in much of the world, this makes it impossible to implement strategies for economic recovery.

"At some point we will have to call for popular sovereignty, direct elections that allow Venezuela to function in parliament within the framework of the constitution and democracy."

The former minister emphasized that if a political agreement between the government and opposition could be sealed, the "international blockade" could be dismantled.

"The impossibility of advancing in a dialogue or putting the national interest above has two origins: the internal struggle within the opposition and external factors (...) An agreement based on the national interest can help to dismantle all this architecture of isolation and blockade that unfortunately some opposition leaders have contributed with their actions ".

Laughable! They think that new elections would improve things, when the recent elections have been what has brought havoc to Venezuela.

They have a legitimate AN. What they don't have is a legitimate Executive, nor a legitimate Judiciary. Nor even an honest election council.

So, Jaua thinks that if the CNE (All PSUV elections department) and TSJ (All PSUV Supreme Court) should call early parliamentary "elections" (banning most non-PSUV parties, candidates) and that would placate the world? Farcical, as Maduro and the PSUV haven't embraced democracy or Constitutionality in the last 2 decades. A new, all PSUV AN would be lipstick on a pig. And naturally, Jaua suggests that all of Venezuelas problems stem from an opposition who hasn't been allowed to be so much as dog catcher.
