Bolivia eyes universal health care for next year

06 September 2018 - 01H11

LA PAZ (AFP) -
Bolivia will launch a universal health care program next year, socialist President Evo Morales said Wednesday.

"Next year we will start free universal health insurance with $200 million" from the general budget, Morales told a news briefing without releasing a detailed outline of the plan.

Morales said implementation of the plan would be based on an analysis of the diseases that most afflict the population of South America's poorest nation.

. . .

According to the state National Institute of Statistics, about 50 percent of the economically active population does not have a fixed income and therefore does not have health insurance.

We'll be the last country on Earth where people drop dead in ERs after waiting for 8 hours and folks go bankrupt because of unpaid medical bills (or remain trapped in shitty jobs just for the benefits).

"...Morales told a news briefing without releasing a detailed outline of the plan."

Does the plan call for actual universal healthcare by medical professionals? What exactly is "universal health insurance"? (I doubt any Democrat is opposed to universal healthcare as opposed to what we suffer through now.)

Or is Bolivia going to import Cuba's infamous "fake doctors*" for $200 per month (cash, plus room/board), of which these "doctors" see only $29 that they send home to Cuba... to be "exchanged" into Cuban currency at the official exchange rate?

The Devil is always in the details.

*If anything, these fake doctors are very prolific at impregnating the local poor young females.
