Electrical unions in Venezuela to stage walkout today

Workers in the electric sector call for "job absenteeism" throughout the country for this # 11Jun
Dolar Today / Jun 10, 2018 @ 8:00 pm

The union of the National Electric Corporation (Corpoelec) called on the electricity professionals to hold a "national absenteeism" day for Monday, June 11, with the intention of demanding better wages.

Last Monday the employees of the company did not attend their jobs as a sign of protest. They denounce that their salaries are "miserable" and that they do not even manage to survive: the workers earn Bs. 1,000,000 and Bs. 3,000,000 that occupy high positions.

Due to the absence of the workers, the Minister of Electric Energy, Luis Motta Domínguez, called a dialogue table. But the National Electric Federation and its unions claim that the counteroffer is far below their demands.

Maybe Maduro will pull a "Chavez" on them and fire them all (like PdVSA in 2003, when they struck for wages and benefits), and replace them with PSUV jobsworths. Oh, wait... the vast majority of positions within Corpoelec are Chavistas... all the skilled workers have already fled the country. Which is yet another reason that there is only electricity for 4 hours per day in some major cities. (Caracas get electricity full time, because that is where Delcy and Maduro and Diosdado live!)
