WHO Praises Bolivia's Progress in Health and Social Security

La Paz, Oct 24 (Prensa Latina) Fernando Leanes, representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Bolivia, praised the country''s achievements in health care, social security, water and sanitation.

According to Leanes, all these advances are a result of the economic policies implemented by the Government, particularly the recovery of natural resources.

Leanes, also representative of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) referred to data issued by the Demographic Survey, according to which the rate of childbirths in health centers in Bolivia increased from 57 percent in 2008 to 87 percent in 2016.

Regarding infant mortality in children under one year of age, the rate fell from 50 to 24 percent in the same period, which he said was encouraging.
