Miamis Dirty Ana still on the run

Politics is rough and I play like it. - Ana Alliegro
I am not exactly sure what Ana Alliegro meant by those words. But the more I read about the self-proclaimed Republican Bad Girl, the more I am convinced that David Rivera is sweating bricks. Because all evidence points to the fact that Alliegro makes Dirty Harry, the character in the old Clint Eastwood movie, look tame.
Two weeks after a strange disappearance Alliegro is still missing. Initially her mother, Guedy, told The Miami Herald that her daughter was fine, but said she didnt know where she was. This past week Guedys tone seems to have changed. In another Herald article it was reported that she has not heard from her daughter in two weeks and neither have other family members. And Guedy was later quoted as saying, I am worried. I know she is resting. We are praying for her.
Alliegro is an important piece in a federal investigation into the Justin Lamar Sternad campaign. Sternad ran this past summer in Floridas 26th congressional district in a bitter primary election won by Democrat Joe Garcia. The investigation is focused on tens of thousands of dollars, in cash, funneled into the Sternad campaign. Evidence seems to point to U.S. Rep. David Rivera as the source of the money.
The Bad Girls involvement? She served as Sternads campaign consultant. Strange considering she boasts of being a badass republican, was not paid for her work (at least it did not appear in campaign records), and with Sternad, she ran a democrats race. more at link

(39,321 posts)Rivera being his best buddy and all - when he squeals Marco might be mentioned. And Marco looks like he wants to be a contender in 2016 thus I can justify putting this story in Latin America because his goal will be to bomb Cuba and Venezuela!

You are so right: David Rivera must be quaking in his boots. Hope he does feel the pressure and decides not to take all the blame himself for his dirty politics.

(160,623 posts)Al Pacino's accent in that film was bizarre, I thought. They should have written fewer lines for him.
I saw in the article that man who was Pacino's pal in the film got involved in Rivera's campaign fund raising, along with the others.
So many high-profile people raising money for him, and it may all be in vain, if justice prevails!

(160,623 posts)GOP poll: embattled David Rivera trails Joe Garcia
Posted on Friday, 09.28.12
One of the polls showing Rep. David Rivera down 10 points was conducted by a top-flight Republican polling firm.
Marc Caputo And Manny Garcia
mcaputo@MiamiHerald.com
Two separate polls from Republican and Democratic third-party groups have arrived at the same conclusion: Republican U.S. Rep. David Rivera is losing his reelection effort.
Rivera, under separate federal criminal investigations into his personal and campaign finances, trails Democratic challenger Joe Garcia by nine percentage points in a Democratic poll and hes behind by 10 points in the Republican survey just outside the polls error margin.
Riveras campaign has produced its own survey showing he has an inside-the-error margin lead of four points.
The Republican survey is the newest and most eye-opening because it was conducted Tuesday and Wednesday by a top-flight GOP polling firm with vast experience in Florida: McLaughlin & Associates.

(39,321 posts)Vigilia Mambisa, etc. will be screaming about voter irregularities or something! Not that Garcia is all that liberal but at least he's rational, relatively. Isn't it great to at least see one of the hardliners fall in disgrace?
Maybe there will be some new pictures of Miguel Saavedra in November
Judi Lynn
(160,623 posts)It has been a long, LONG time since one of Saavedra's publicity ploys. He probably feels obligated to burst into the public eye soon: this could easily be his invitation.
We could use some new comical photos, couldn't we? They are always good for a laugh.

(62,325 posts)that Rivera still has any support at all. In a decent society where ethics and honor counted, he would be finished. Only 9 points behind? What is wrong with people?
As for Ana, I hope nothing happened to her and I wonder why her mother at first said she knew where she was, but now says she's worried about her? Was she lying the first time, or did someone lie to her?
It's a fascinating tale of lies, sex, (let's face it, there IS sex somewhere in this story) politics and hopefully video tapes.
Definitely movie material.

(39,321 posts)Marco Rubio mum on David Rivera questions, Jeb Bush Jr. floated as future replacement
Sen. Marco Rubio preferred to get rained on Monday than answer questions about a criminal investigation into his long-time friend and ally, Congressman David Rivera.
Rivera is the subject of a federal grand-jury investigation into whether he steered tens of thousands of unreported cash to a Democratic congressional candidate who ran against a rival of the Republican.
The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald first reported the allegations when two longtime Rivera campaign vendors said he was behind the effort thats now under federal scrutiny.
Rivera has attacked the vendors credibility, but Rubio had nothing but good things to say about the two.
Ive always had positive dealings with them, said Rubio, who tried to say as little as possible about Rivera before an aide whisked him away in the rain at an event.
Meantime, top Republicans from Washington D.C. to Tallahassee to Miami are laying the groundwork to field new challengers for the District 26 Congressional seat in the event that Rivera loses the race to Democratic challenger Joe Garcia.

Her focus was the water throwing at the journalist video, funny that is what made it newsworthy. Caputo is not letting go of the story and the water throwing involved the television reporters so it should have legs! I just hope Rivera doesn't find a way out, apparently he hired a great lawyer.

Amid FBI probe, GOP prepares for Rivera indictment, loss and future successors
Republicans are so worried about bad poll numbers and a federal grand jury investigation into Rep. David Rivera that theyre starting to think about who will run in 2014. Even Sen. Marco Rubio is keeping his distance.
By Manny Garcia and Marc Caputo
mcaputo@MiamiHerald.com
Bracing for embattled U.S. Rep. David Rivera to be indicted or lose his election, Republicans have started lining up potential successors to regain the seat in 2014 if the congressmans Democrat opponent defeats him in November.
The pressure has been building for about a month, but it boiled over last week after a series of stories by The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald documented that a candidate suspected of illegal campaign activities linked to Rivera has turned on the congressman.
For the past week, a group of Miami Republicans began mulling possible future candidates, who might even challenge Rivera in 2014 should he win the election in November.
Leading the list: Jeb Bush Jr., son and namesake of the popular former governor, and state Sen. Anitere Flores. Other names include Marili Cancio, a lawyer who challenged Rivera in the 2010 GOP primary; former state Sen. Alex Diaz de la Portilla, whos running for state House, and Miami-Dade School Board Member Carlos Curbelo.

Rep. David Rivera goes on offense with TV ads
In a pair of new TV ads, U.S. Rep. David Rivera makes an appeal to non-Cuban Hispanic voters and criticizes rival Joe Garcias work in the federal government.
By Patricia Mazzei
pmazzei@MiamiHerald.com
Embattled U.S. Rep. David Rivera has gone on the attack over the airwaves in the final weeks of his reelection campaign against rival Joe Garcia.
Rivera has two campaign ads running on television. One of them, in Spanish, highlights the Miami Republican congressmans assistance to Daniela Peláez, a North Miami Senior High School valedictorian who faced deportation to Colombia because her parents brought her to the U.S. illegally as a child.
The other ad, in English, claims Garcia, a Democrat, raised state utility rates, steered federal contracts to cronies and has been under investigation over his campaign finances. The claims are mostly inaccurate.
Rivera, a first-term congressman, is fighting to stay in office amid two federal investigations: one into his personal and campaign finances and another probing whether he illegally funneled secret money to a Garcia primary rival, Justin Lamar Sternad.
Rivera, however, continues to deny that either investigation is under way.

David Rivera defends himself in TV interview
U.S. Rep. David Rivera played a tape recording to try to discredit a vendor who has said Rivera had a hand in a Democratic primary candidates campaign.
By Patricia Mazzei
pmazzei@MiamiHerald.com
In his first sit down English-language television interview in weeks, U.S. Rep. David Rivera defended himself Sunday against a federal grand-jury investigation into his alleged involvement in a primary campaign against his Democratic opponent.
At one point, Rivera pulled out a black Sony tape recorder and held it up against his lapel microphone to play a recording of what he said was a telephone message from an FBI witness in the case.
The FBI is investigating whether Rivera illegally funneled secret money to Justin Lamar Sternad, who lost in the Aug. 14 primary to Joe Garcia. Garcia now faces Rivera.
No federal agency has ever stated or confirmed that I am under investigation for anything, Rivera told WPLG-ABC 10s Michael Putney on This Week in South Florida.

State ethics commission: David Rivera broke 11 ethics laws while serving in Florida Legislature
The state ethics panel found, among other charges, that former state Rep. David Rivera now a congressman broke state ethics laws by failing to fully disclose his finances from 2005 to 2009.
By Scott Hiaasen and Patricia Mazzei
shiaasen@MiamHerald.com
Already facing FBI probes and a daunting reelection, U.S. Rep. David Rivera was charged Wednesday by state authorities with 11 counts of violating ethics laws for filing bogus financial disclosure forms, misusing campaign funds and concealing a $1 million consulting contract with a Miami gambling business while serving in the state Legislature.
Investigators with the Florida Commission on Ethics found that Riveras secret deal to work as a political consultant for the Magic City Casino formerly the Flagler Dog Track created a conflict of interest for the lawmaker. The ethics panel also found that the Republican broke state ethics laws by failing to fully disclose his finances from 2005 to 2009.
Rivera was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2002. He won reelection in 2004, 2006 and 2008.
Rivera signed a consulting contract with the Magic City Casinos owners in 2006 to run a campaign to win voter approval for slot machines at Miami-Dade pari-mutuels. But Rivera had the money from the deal sent to Millennium Marketing, a company founded by his mother and godmother, records show. Rivera then received at least $132,000 back from Millennium money that Rivera has called loans that did not have to be disclosed.

(39,321 posts)Meanwhile where's Ana? Witness protection or a long vacation paid with monies from Rivera's illegal gambling consultancy. Garcia has to win, even though he was the head of Canf I believe he's mostly reformed. The funny thing is that I think he's never been to Cuba, but I'm not sure about that. I know he talks to people who are very progressive and he has their support. Whew, Miami is changing, maybe!
