Michelle Bachelet Steps up Chile's Pledge to Climate Change

Santiago, Chile, June 1 (Prensa Latina) Chilean President Michelle Bachelet has stepped up today her nation''s pledges to Paris Climate Change Agreements, stressing that this is a top priority for the future of the world.

Michelle Bachelet stated that Chile will have over one million-square kilometer marine protected areas in Nazca-Desventuradas islands, Juan Fernandez archipelago, Cape Horn and Diego Ramirez archipelago.

In an in-depth speech during her Annual Public Account, Chilean President added that she is debating with the Rapa Nui community in Easter Island to create another protected marine area.

Likewise, she stressed the agreement on the establishment of a network of 4,5 million hectare Parks of Patagonia in the regions of Los Lagos, Aysen and Magallanes, thanks to an agreement with Tompkins Foundation.

'We are committed to reducing pollutant emissions by 30%, protecting our forests, water and land surface. That is why, I have ordered to set up a permanent group on climate change,' she said.
