Oscar-nominated actor Viggo Mortensen called Argentina's president a "neoliberal braggart" on Wednesday in a video supporting leaders of the national film industry who fear funding cuts.
Actors, directors and producers in Argentina have been protesting a decision by the government of center-right, austerity-minded President Mauricio Macri to fire the head of the national film institute.
"State film-support systems in countries such as Argentina and France are unique and successful examples of cultural development admired around the world," Mortensen, a New York-born Danish-American who lived in Argentina for part of his childhood, said in Spanish in the video on the Twitter account of the Argentina Association of Actors.
Culture Minister Pablo Avelluto asked last week for the resignation of Alejandro Cacetta, director of the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts, or INCAA, for what he called suspicion of irregular expenses.

(160,545 posts)starting well before the election of a dirty politician, the previous mayor of Buenos Aires, who established a history of skimming incredible profits from the citizens' tax money, and never, EVER hid his complete support for the murderous, grotesquely sadistic fascist military dictatorship which his own father, and other family members used extensively to generate incredible profits in their businesses as long as the evil continued, throughout the torture and disappearance of over 30,000 leftist Argentinians.
There has been so much to learn shared right in this forum for a long time, with links to translations from Argentinian newspapers, and excellent historical background, not to mention the copious reading available now online concerning the US' full support for this monstrous dictatorship, with Henry Kissinger's full cooperation and coaching from Washington.
