Puerto Vallarta. . .

Vacationed there many years ago and sure would like to go back for a week or so. What's the atmosphere toward Americans like there? Things like drug cartels, Trump's wall and such raise a few concerns. The State Dept website says the tourists destinations are quite safe but I'd hate to have Trump spoil our trip.

Any recent experience or ex-pat input?

Mexicans aren't as militant as the French but knowing how to converse bteaks the ice. Try a little then out of empathy Mexicans will usually cut you slack. That's been my experience.
